We are all very excited to serve as volunteers to the Turkish American community whether in ATASC or in an ATASC chapter. We all agree on mutual support and total cooperation between chapters themselves and between the chapters and ATASC. We developed our 2010 goals in this spirit and agreed on the division of activities that are complementary to best serve you.

Four ATASC schools  are ready to educate the next generation in Turkish language, history and culture.  The volunteers at each chapter put their hearts and souls into these schools. I hope that you will join us in this effort by enrolling your children and/or volunteering for these schools. Furthermore, we are preparing a Children’s Festival on 18th of April in Long Beach to celebrate the Turkish Children’s Bayram.

One of the goal sof new ATASC Board is to keep you, ATASC community, better informed of ATASC issues as well as happenings in your local chapters. You are hearing from ATASC periodically in such and/or joint communications with your chapter presidents. We also just opened this group in Facebook to keep up you up to date facebook. We are awaiting your feedback about what is working, what can be done better.

Posted by atasc on September 4, 2009 at 16:35 pm

TURKISH AMERICAN COMMUNITY AND FRIENDS CELEBRATED THE TURKISH REPUBLIC with a very unifying and fun filled REPUBLIC DAY Ball at Long Beach organized by ATASC with the collaboration of all the ATASC chapters:  ATASC-SD,  LATAA,  OCTAA,  TALL,  VATAN

The Turkish American Community was present in large numbers to celebrate the 86th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic.  The ball room was well decorated with red and white carnations and Turkish and American Flags befitting the theme of the Ball. ATASC volunteers, including students from UCLA , worked all day to prepare the room and the foyer and were still putting the last touches when the guests started arriving.

The entertainment started with the  Yore Dance Group performing 3 different dances interspersed with music arranged by our skillful DJ Devran Mustafaoglu. The crowd really appreciated the Zeybek and the Black Sea dances.  Ms. Demetra George Mustafaoglu conducted the live auction of the two THY (Turk Hava Yollari – Turkish Airlines) tickets and the National Soccer Team (Milli Takim) uniform raising funds for ATASC. Following the auction,  Ferhat Atli and his music brought all to the dance floor to dance to beautiful music. The music, dancing and the socializing went on until 1:00 am where the event had to come to an end although some of the guests were still immensely enjoying themselves.

The Dancing continued until early morning.

ATATURK’s Corner

Ataturk dedicated 23 Nisan, the anniversary of the Turkish National Congress in 1920 to Children. His vision was:

FUTURE BELONGS TO AND IS PROTECTED BY FUTURE GENERATIONS.
He expressed it best when he addressed Turkish Youth:"

"O Turkish Youth! Your first and foremost duty is to defend and protect the Turkish independence and the Turkish Republic for all eternity. All the mighty strength that you will need exists in the noble blood a-flowing in your veins!."

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

ATASC SCHOOL IN IZMIT, TURKEY

ARSLANBEY ATA-SC OKULU On August 17, 1999, western Turkey was struck by a devastating magnitude-7.4 earthquake. Many thousands of people were killed, and many more made homeless by the quake that was centered near Izmit. Contributing to the rebuilding process, ATASC initiated an effort in February 2003 to build a new school for the children of Izmit. The school admitted its first class on September 13, 2004. ATASC still continues to support its namesake school.
Since 2006, ATASC sponsored 13 needy children, helped send 6 children to Space Camp Izmir, opened up a Computer Lab and a Science Lab. Most recently ATASC helped the school to open up a pre-school by furnishing four pre-school classrooms named for ATASC chapters. VATAN Chapter is currently in the process of furnishing a conference salon for the students of the elementary school.
