ATASC San Diego is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting better understanding and relations between the peoples of Turkey and the United States of America. Our goals are to increase, promote, foster friendship, public knowledge and understanding of the Turkish culture in San Diego, California...
Brief History
The organization was first founded in 1953 as the "Turkish-American Club". The main goal was to promote a better understanding of Turkey and Turkish people in the USA and to provide the means for Turkish-Americans to get together and observe national and religious holidays. It continued through periods of strength with many activities followed by periods of relative inactivity. In 1985, the association bylaws were revised to permit it to become a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. With tax exempt status, all contributions to the organization are tax-deductible. The name was changed to the American Turkish Association of Southern California. The acronym ATASC San Diego is consistent with the philosophy of the members: a group adhering to the teachings of the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (also referred to as ATA, which means "father").
Today, ATASC San Diego continues to provide an invaluable service to the Turkish-American community. From social activities, cultural activities, charitable causes, as well as building community, ATASC San Diego plays an integral role in bringing the Turkish-American community together as well as helping others learn about a people rich in culture.

Founded in 2003, the Turkish American Ladies League (TALL) is the charitable chapter of the "Association of Turkish Americans of Southern California" - ATASC.
TALL is the most active Turkish American fundraiser in Southern California, having organized several events since our creation. Most of you already know someone on our board and hopefully you’ve heard about the satisfaction we enjoy while supporting our designated charities. Our hopes are to raise money for the Turkish and American charities through fun and interesting events. All profits go to our designated charities.
We invite you to join us. TELL A FRIEND; BRING A FRIEND; BE A FRIEND! Come join us for tea and “tell us what you want, what you really really want”. Our ears are open as well as our minds and hearts. A sisterhood awaits you and some fun too.
With love,
TALL

Ventura County American Turkish AssociatioN
VATAN* is the newly formed Ventura County American Turkish Association. It is founded for educational and cultural reasons. It is a chapter of American Turkish Association of Southern California (ATA SC) and thus recognized as a charitable organization by the IRS. The main purposes of VATAN are as follows:
(a) Present Turkish culture to the public at large, and promote a better understanding between the Turkish and American communities; read more
(b) Create and maintain communication, unity and solidarity within the Ventura County Turkish community and the larger ATASC and ATAA organizations;
(c) Operate a Turkish School (on a weekend day) to teach children (and adults) Turkish language, history and culture;
We at VATAN would like to address this issue for a better understanding and the relationship between the two nations and cultures. We want to be part of multicultural activities where we can educate our adopted country about the lands we came from. We believe that only mutual knowledge brings understanding and then tolerance between diverse people.
Turkey is also a major tourist destination with beautiful beaches, historical civilizations on top of other for the last 6000 years - from Hittites to Ottomans - friendly people and cheap accomodations. It is visited by 12 million people from Europe.

ATASC SCHOOL IN IZMIT, TURKEY
|
|

|
|
| ARSLANBEY ATA-SC ILKÖĞRETIM OKULU |
On August 17, 1999, western Turkey was struck by a devastating magnitude-7.4 earthquake. Many thousands of people were killed, and many more made homeless by the quake that was centered near Izmit.
Contributing to the rebuilding process, ATASC initiated an effort in February 2003 to build a new school for the children of Izmit. Phase One of the project, construction of the building exterior, was completed in May 2003. The Izmit municipality joined the effort by providing electricity, heating, water, sewage and landscaping to the school site.
The school admitted its first class on September 13, 2004. |
